A mountainboard, a trainer kite and a big field make a no-wind day useful. Snow changes everything about kite size. Low friction means a smaller kite pulls you uphill in winds that would leave you stranded on water.
Kit and conditions
Wide open sand at low tide gave the buggies room to race. The course ran two long reaches and a tight turn at the far flag.
- Size down on snow
- Carry spare gloves and batteries
- Walk the course before racing
- Keep lines inside a bag when cold
No wind on the water just means a different playground.
Mara Quill, Gustline crew
Cold batteries and frozen lines were the biggest problems. We kept spares inside our jackets.

The photos are unreal. Which lens were you using?
Agreed, that one catches a lot of people out.

On a smaller board it is the same idea, just be patient on the lulls.
Brilliant session. The water looks perfect.
Solid advice on the safety side. More people need to read this.
Our club ran the same drill on Sunday. Everyone was much faster by the end.
