Night watches, one broken batten and a finish at dawn. Registration opened at eight, and by nine the beach was packed with riders, families and a few very patient dogs.

The wind filled in right on time for the finals, which made the race committee very popular for once.

I would add one thing: always check the forecast twice on the day.
