Speed, edge and the moment to commit, explained by two riders who send it. Every big jump started with a check downwind. A clear landing zone matters more than the height number on the tracker.
Timing the send
We logged each jump with a tracker so we could compare runs afterwards. The best jumps were rarely the ones that felt biggest.
- Send the kite early, then edge hard
- Keep the bar in until you peak
- Wear an impact vest and helmet
- Clear the landing zone before every send
The jump is decided before you leave the water. Everything after that is just hanging on.
Priya Nair, Gustline crew
Height comes from speed and a hard edge, not from yanking the bar. The riders who went biggest were the ones who carried the most speed into the pop.

Any tips for doing this on a smaller board?
Spring is usually quieter, go for it.
Our club ran the same drill on Sunday. Everyone was much faster by the end.
Thanks! We used a pretty old action camera, nothing fancy.

Glad it helped, have a great trip!
Good shout, we will add that to the list.
Great write-up. Would love a follow-up on how it changes in lighter wind.
I made the same mistake for two seasons before someone pointed it out.

Agreed, that one catches a lot of people out.
This is exactly what I needed before my trip next month. Saving it.
